This beautiful 1000 francs silver coin from Equatorial Guinea, issued in 2015, is part of the “Mariposas Exóticas” (Exotic Butterflies) series and celebrates the elegance of the Graphium policenes butterfly. Graded PR69 by PCGS, it features near-perfect proof quality with strong contrast and intricate detail.
The obverse presents a vivid colorized depiction of the Graphium policenes butterfly resting on a large flower with wide, layered petals. The butterfly’s wings are richly detailed with black tones accented by bright blue-green spots and delicate patterning. Around the composition are small additional elements including tiny butterflies and a small insect, enhancing the natural scene. The inscription “MARIPOSAS EXOTICAS” appears along the upper rim, with “GRAPHIUM POLICENES” and the year “2015” placed nearby, all framed by a beaded border.
The reverse features the coat of arms of Equatorial Guinea, with a central shield depicting a silk-cotton tree beneath a row of stars. Below, a ribbon bears the national motto “UNIDAD PAZ JUSTICIA.” The surrounding legend reads “REPUBLICA DE GUINEA ECUATORIAL,” along with the denomination “1000 FRANCOS CFA.”
Struck in proof silver with attractive mirrored fields and detailed relief, this coin is a perfect blend of nature, art, and numismatics—an excellent addition for collectors of wildlife and colorized coins.
