Supersonic airliner Concorde is the subject of this silver proof coin issued by Alderney in 2008 on the eve of the 5th Anniversary of its very first flight. The jet made its first flight in 1969 and was used in regular commercial transportation since 1976 till 2003. Concorde was used by Britain and France, for transatlantic flights in particular. The further using of the supersonic aircraft for civil flights was dropped due to very expensive service. The commemorative coins struck in pure silver have 10 pounds sterling denomination. The superjet is depicted on the reverse side of the coin in two dimensions. There is face value of the coin indicated on the reverse too. The obverse of the special coin contains the image of the Great Britain’s Queen and her name placed along the rim. The year of and the place of issue, the Alderney island, are indicated on the obverse also.
