The 1929 Germany Weimar Republic Henry the Lion silver medal, Kienast-425, designed by Karl Goetz and certified PCGS MS63, commemorates the 800th anniversary of the birth of Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony and Bavaria. The obverse portrays the medieval ruler with shoulder-length wavy hair, wearing a flowing tunic and holding a long sword, a miniature church, and a fortified shield decorated with towers and an arched gateway. The dates 1129 and 1929 frame the composition. The reverse features a magnificent heraldic lion standing above two shields displaying Bavarian diamonds and Saxon stripes with a decorative diagonal band. Ornamental scrollwork, raised beaded borders, and the artist's KG initials enrich the design. Henry the Lion played an important role in medieval German politics and the development of Brunswick and Lübeck. This collectible silver medal combines historical significance, remarkable artistry, and certified preservation.
