Germany 1936 Ludwig I von Bayern commemorative silver medal, certified MS63 by PCGS, is a historical medallic issue dedicated to King Ludwig I of Bavaria, an important cultural patron and monarch of the 19th century. The obverse features a refined portrait of Ludwig I facing right, with detailed hair, mustache, and formal collar. Around the rim appears the inscription “LUDWIG I. KÖNIG V. BAYERN,” executed in large raised lettering. The smooth fields, sculptural portrait relief, and subtle silver toning create a dignified appearance that reflects the classical medallic style of the period. The engraver’s signature “K. GOETZ” is visible below the portrait.

The reverse depicts the monumental Befreiungshalle memorial building at Kelheim, one of the most significant architectural projects commissioned by Ludwig I. The structure is shown with columns, circular walls, stairways, balustrades, and domed upper section rendered in strong architectural detail. Around the design appear the dates “1786” and “1936,” as well as “25. AUG.” marking the commemorative occasion. Beneath the monument is a long German inscription referring to the German wars of liberation and remembrance of national history. Decorative border elements frame both sides of the medal and enhance the overall composition.

Ludwig I of Bavaria is remembered for promoting art, architecture, education, and Bavarian cultural identity. His patronage contributed to many historic monuments and museums throughout Bavaria. Certified by PCGS as MS63, this silver medal is an attractive collectible for enthusiasts of German history, Bavarian commemoratives, architectural medals, and historical European exonumia.
