The 1906 Germany Bremen 5 Mark silver coin is a remarkable example of Hanseatic City coinage, reflecting the proud independence and rich maritime heritage of Bremen. Issued during the German Empire, this coin highlights Bremen’s historical importance as a major trading and port center in Northern Europe.
The obverse features an ornate crowned shield bearing the Bremen key emblem, flanked by two heraldic lions standing upright. Above the shield rises a richly detailed crown with arches and pearls, while beneath it elegant scrollwork and floral ornaments enhance the composition. The surrounding inscription “FREIE HANSESTADT BREMEN” is enclosed by a beaded border, with a small mint mark below. The reverse displays the imperial eagle with fully spread wings, finely engraved feathers, and a central shield on its chest. Above the eagle is the imperial crown with flowing ribbons, while the inscription “DEUTSCHES REICH 1906 FÜNF MARK” and small stars complete the design. The coin shows beautiful natural toning with golden, blue, and amber hues.
Struck in silver and graded PR63 by PCGS, this coin exhibits prooflike quality and exceptional detail. A desirable piece of German states coinage, it combines historical depth with strong visual appeal. An excellent addition for collectors of European silver and imperial-era numismatics.
