The 1852 Baden 1 Kreuzer copper coin, issued under Grand Duke Leopold, is a classic example of mid-19th century German state coinage. Struck in copper and certified MS63 by PCGS, this piece reflects both the refined portraiture and traditional heraldic simplicity typical of the Baden monetary system.
The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Grand Duke Leopold of Baden, depicted with detailed hair, strong facial features, and a clean profile. Surrounding the portrait is the inscription “LEOPOLD GROSSHERZOG VON BADEN,” identifying the ruler and his title. A finely beaded border frames the design, adding balance and structure. The reverse displays the denomination “1 KREUZER” prominently in the center, with the date “1852” below. Encircling the value is a symmetrical wreath composed of stylized leaves and small berries, tied neatly at the bottom with a ribbon bow. The entire composition is enclosed within a dotted rim.
Leopold ruled Baden during a period of political transformation in the German Confederation, and his coinage reflects the stability and identity of the region.
A well-preserved certified copper coin with rich brown patina and sharp details, it is an excellent addition for collectors of German states and historical coinage.
