A new medal.
This France Egypt Conquest An VII restrike medal, Lec-11, is a silvered historical medal certified MS 62 by PCGS and devoted to the French campaign in Egypt. The obverse presents a striking left-facing portrait of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh wearing the striped nemes headdress, surrounded by the inscriptions “CONQUÊTE DE LA HAUTE EGYPTE” and “AN VII,” with Galle’s signature below. The reverse depicts a detailed crocodile walking beneath a tall date palm, its trunk rising into a broad crown of finely engraved fronds and fruit. A chain extends from the crocodile toward the palm, creating a powerful symbolic composition associated with the conquest of Upper Egypt. The inscriptions “GALLE” and “DENON DIREXIT” identify the engraver Jean-Jacques Galle and artistic direction of Dominique-Vivant Denon. The attached suspension loop emphasizes the medal’s historical format. Combining Napoleonic history, Egyptian imagery, wildlife and refined medallic art, this PCGS-certified restrike is a fascinating collectible.
