This 1974 France 50 Francs Hercules silver coin, KM-941.1, Gad-882 and F-427, is an impressive issue of the Fifth Republic, certified MS 67 by PCGS. Struck in .900 silver, it revives Augustin Dupré’s celebrated Hercules composition, a powerful allegory of French republican ideals. The reverse depicts muscular Hercules standing between two female figures: Liberty at left, holding a staff topped by a Phrygian cap, and Equality at right, holding scales. Above them appears the national motto “LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ,” with Dupré’s signature below. The obverse presents the denomination “50 FRANCS” within an elegant wreath formed by an olive branch and an oak branch, tied with a ribbon; the French Republic legend surrounds the design, while the date 1974, dots and mint/engraver marks complete the composition. The Hercules type was issued from 1974 to 1980, and the 1974 KM-941.1 had a reported mintage of 4,298,811. Its exceptional PCGS MS 67 grade makes this classic French silver coin especially attractive for collectors of high-grade European and allegorical coinage.
