The coin of Fiji minted in 2007 is dedicated to the first artificial satellite of the Earth. It was the Soviet Sputnik 1 which was launched on our planet’s orbit for the first time in the history of mankind. It happened in 1957, so the issuing year mark the 50th Anniversary of the breakthrough event in rocket science. The image of the Sputnik 1 is placed on the reverse along with the image of a rocket. There are colored globe on their background and small USSR flag next to the images. The inscription minted along the coin’s border reads the subject of the piece and the silver rate. The opposite side of the coin bears the image of the British Queen as the head of the Commonwealth and the legends explaining the name of hers, the year of mintage and the name of the issuing territories. The face value of the piece is two dollars.
