The set of non-precious souvenir coins of Bassas da India is dedicated to the beautiful sailed ships. As legends say, there are many sunken ships in the area of the atoll because of shoals around it. All coins are minted in yellow and white metal alloys, some are bimetal. The territory of issue is a little uninhabited atoll in the Indian Ocean, so it certainly has no official currency; so the face values of the coins are indicated in Frs. The pieces are not legal tender money. They have different sailboats on the reverses along with the names of the ships and face values of the pieces. The opposite sides of the coins contain the picturesque Coat of Arms of Bassas da India with the name of the territory. The semicircular inscription in French along the lower rim of the coin reads “French southern lands”. The set was minted in 2012 for collecting.
