Malagasy 20 ariary World Wilflife Fund Fauna Lemur proof silver coin 1988

The 1988 Malagasy Republic 20 Ariary silver Proof coin celebrates Madagascar’s remarkable wildlife through an expressive portrait of a lemur, one of the island’s most recognizable endemic animals. The wildlife side shows a lemur perched on a horizontal tree branch, its rounded head turned forward, with carefully modeled face, ears, paws and textured fur. A spectacular long tail curves beneath the branch and sweeps around the composition, while the polished field creates strong contrast with the frosted animal. The reverse centers the 20 Ariary denomination beneath a large five-pointed star, framed by two symmetrical grain branches with seed heads and leaves. A circular element joins the branches below, accompanied by the 1988 date and geometric ornaments. Produced in silver with a brilliant Proof finish, this conservation-themed issue combines Malagasy fauna, elegant engraving and classic national symbolism, making it especially attractive for collectors of lemurs, wildlife and world silver coins.
