The 1903 Ethiopia Menelik II Addis Ababa Railroad bronze medal, Gill-M41, commemorates the development of modern transportation during the reign of Emperor Menelik II. Certified PCGS MS63 BN, this historic medal features a right-facing portrait of the emperor wearing an elaborate crown, with finely detailed hair, beard and traditional attire, surrounded by a geometric ornamental border. The reverse presents an early steam locomotive with a tall smokestack, boiler, driving wheels, connecting rods, railway carriages and figures standing beside the train. Ethiopian inscriptions and a decorative border complete the composition. Menelik II ruled Ethiopia from 1889 to 1913 and promoted modernization through railway construction, communications and infrastructure. The railway linking Addis Ababa with the coast became a major milestone in Ethiopia's economic development. Featuring rich brown patina, historical significance and PCGS certification, this collectible offers an exceptional connection to African railway history.
