Ethiopia 1 Crown 1967 silver coin dedicated to Emperor Haile Selassie I, one of the most influential political and historical figures of the 20th century. This remarkable issue reflects the legacy of the Ethiopian Empire and its long-standing traditions of monarchy, faith, and national identity.
The obverse features a detailed portrait of Haile Selassie I facing forward, with finely engraved facial features, beard, and textured hair. Surrounding the portrait are inscriptions “H.I.M. HAILE SELASSIE I EMPEROR OF ETHIOPIA,” along with the date “1967” divided on both sides and additional Amharic script below. The beaded rim frames the composition, enhancing its formal appearance. The reverse presents an elaborate imperial scene: a crowned canopy with draped curtains, laurel branches on both sides, and a central shield bearing a Star of David. Two standing angelic figures flank the shield, while below lies the Lion of Judah holding a staff, symbolizing royal authority and divine protection. Intricate decorative elements and inscriptions in Amharic complete the design.
Haile Selassie I was a key figure in African history, known for modernizing Ethiopia and promoting unity through the Organization of African Unity. Struck in silver with Proof quality and graded PR67 by PCGS, this coin stands out for its sharp details and mirror-like surfaces, making it a valuable collectible with strong historical and artistic appeal.
