Ethiopia 10 Dollars 1972 silver coin dedicated to Emperor Haile Selassie I, the 225th and last reigning emperor of Ethiopia, widely regarded as a symbol of African independence and unity. This issue highlights both imperial authority and national identity through a refined and symbolic design.
The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Haile Selassie I in military uniform, with detailed decorations, epaulettes, and a composed expression. Surrounding the portrait are inscriptions in Latin and Amharic script, including his name and title “HAILE SELASSIE I EMPEROR OF ETHIOPIA,” along with decorative lettering forming a circular frame. The reverse displays the iconic Lion of Judah walking left, crowned and holding a cross-topped staff, symbolizing monarchy, strength, and divine authority. The lion stands on a ground line, with the date “1972” below and the denomination “10 DOLLARS” to the side, while Amharic inscriptions encircle the design. The beaded rim adds a classic finishing detail.
Haile Selassie I played a crucial role in modernizing Ethiopia and was a founding figure of the Organization of African Unity. Struck in silver and graded MS66 by PCGS, this coin offers outstanding mint luster and sharp details, making it an excellent collectible with historical depth and strong visual appeal.
