The Egypt 50 Pounds silver coin issued in 2017 (KM-1024) is dedicated to the architectural heritage of Cairo during the Khedival era, a period of modernization and urban transformation in the 19th century. This coin highlights the elegance and historical importance of Cairo’s classical buildings, reflecting a time when European-influenced design blended with traditional Egyptian identity.
The obverse presents a detailed façade of a grand historic building, likely inspired by Khedival Cairo architecture. The structure features a central arched entrance with a decorative pediment, symmetrical windows, columns, balconies, and intricate cornices. Fine lines emphasize the building’s depth and classical proportions. Below, Arabic inscriptions and ornamental flourishes enhance the composition. The reverse showcases a central arched window motif with radiating lines resembling sunlight, inside of which small human figures are depicted, symbolizing life and culture within the city. Surrounding this are Arabic calligraphy inscriptions, the denomination “50,” the word “Geneina,” and the date 2017 / AH1438, along with decorative scrollwork and a patterned border.
Struck in silver and graded MS67 by PCGS, this coin stands out for its sharp details and exceptional preservation. A refined collectible for lovers of architecture, history, and Egyptian cultural heritage.
