Egypt 1 Pound 1979 (AH1399) silver commemorative coin dedicated to the Abbasia Mint building, celebrating Egypt’s national mint and its architectural and industrial significance. This issue highlights both the physical structure and the symbolic importance of coin production in the country’s economic history.
The obverse features a finely engraved depiction of the Abbasia Mint building with a symmetrical façade, central arched entrance, and extended side wings. Above the structure is a cogwheel enclosing minting machinery, symbolizing precision engineering and industrial achievement, with radiating lines extending outward. Arabic inscriptions frame the upper field, while the dates 1954 and 1979 appear on either side, marking the establishment and anniversary. The rim is decorated with a segmented geometric border. The reverse displays elegant Arabic calligraphy arranged in a circular composition, including the denomination and Hijri date AH1399. At the bottom, a detailed arabesque ornament with floral scrollwork adds depth and artistic balance.
The Abbasia Mint, founded in 1954, remains central to Egypt’s coin production and commemorative issues.
Struck in silver with a Proof finish and graded PR67 CAM by PCGS, this coin offers strong contrast, reflective fields, and sharp detail. A refined collectible combining architecture, industry, and numismatic heritage, ideal for serious collectors.
