The 1993 Egypt 5 pounds silver coin, graded PCGS PR68 DCAM, is part of the acclaimed “Ancient Egyptian Treasures” series, dedicated to the most iconic rulers and artworks of ancient Egypt. This issue features the famous Menkaure Triad, one of the most recognizable sculptural groups from the Old Kingdom, associated with Pharaoh Menkaure, builder of the third pyramid at Giza.
The obverse depicts the Menkaure Triad, showing the pharaoh standing between two female figures, traditionally interpreted as the goddess Hathor and a personification of a regional nome. The composition reflects harmony, divine protection, and royal authority. The figures are rendered in classical Egyptian style with precise detailing in posture, headdresses, and proportions. The deep cameo proof finish creates a striking contrast between the frosted relief and the mirror-like background, enhancing the sculptural quality of the design.
The reverse features the Egyptian coat of arms with the Eagle of Saladin, Arabic inscriptions, and the denomination “5 pounds.” The dual date AH1414 / 1993 reflects both Islamic and Gregorian calendars.
Graded PR68 DCAM by PCGS, this coin offers excellent eye appeal and strong detail, making it an appealing piece for collectors of ancient Egyptian art, history, and proof silver coins.
