A new coin.
The Ecuador 2 décimos coin of 1914, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is a classic example of early 20th-century Republic coinage and a tribute to Antonio José de Sucre, one of Latin America’s most important independence leaders. Graded MS64 by PCGS, this silver coin combines historical depth with strong collectible appeal.
The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Antonio José de Sucre, depicted with refined facial features, short wavy hair, and a dignified expression. The surrounding legend reads “REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR,” while the date “1914” is clearly placed below the portrait. Fine denticles along the rim frame the design, enhancing its classical appearance.
The reverse displays the national coat of arms of Ecuador, crowned by an Andean condor with wings spread wide. The central shield shows a mountain landscape, a flowing river, and a ship beneath a radiant sun. Surrounding elements include flags, fasces, and laurel branches, with the denomination “2 DECIMOS” and mintmark “PHILADELPHIA” incorporated into the legend.
Struck in silver and preserved in Mint State 64 condition by PCGS, this coin offers sharp detail, attractive luster, and historical significance. A superb addition for collectors of Latin American coinage and early republican issues.
