The 1971 Dahomey 1000 Francs Femme Somba silver coin, KM-4.1, commemorates the 10th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Dahomey, now Benin. Certified PCGS PR68, this beautiful Proof issue celebrates African heritage and national identity. The obverse features a detailed portrait of a Somba woman with short hair, hoop earrings, a necklace, and traditional dress, surrounded by a beaded border and the inscription FEMME SOMBA. The reverse displays the national coat of arms with two supporting leopards, a shield divided into four symbolic sections, palm tree, fortress, star, ship, and the motto FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL. Additional inscriptions include REPUBLIQUE DU DAHOMEY, 10eme Anniversaire, 1971, 1960, 1000 FRANCS CFA, and the silver hallmark. Dahomey gained independence from France in 1960, making this commemorative a meaningful tribute to sovereignty and cultural traditions. Its refined engraving and PCGS certification make it an attractive collectible.
