The 1972 Czechoslovakia 100 korun silver coin is a rare Trial Proof-Like issue dedicated to Andrej Sládkovič (1820–1872), one of the most important figures of Slovak Romantic literature. A poet, critic, and patriot, Sládkovič is best known for his epic poem Marína, which became a cornerstone of Slovak national and literary identity.
The obverse features a dignified portrait of Andrej Sládkovič facing slightly right, with finely detailed facial features, hair, and coat collar. The years 1872 and 1972 flank the portrait, marking the centenary of his death, while his name appears boldly below, accompanied by delicate linden branches and the denomination “100.” The reverse displays a large heraldic shield bearing a stylized lion motif, encircled by the inscription of the Czechoslovak state. Below the shield, an architectural motif with arches and towers adds depth and historical symbolism.
Struck in silver in Trial Proof-Like quality, this piece shows reflective fields and sharp relief details. A scarce and historically meaningful commemorative honoring literature and national culture — an exceptional addition for collectors of rare Czechoslovak silver issues.
