The Czech Republic 200 korun silver coin 2001 commemorates the 250th anniversary of the death of Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer (1751–2001), one of the most prominent Baroque architects active in Bohemia. A master of dynamic forms and monumental sacred architecture, Dientzenhofer left a lasting mark on Prague and other historic cities through his expressive church and palace designs.
The obverse features an architectural composition inspired by Baroque elements: a pair of richly decorated columns supporting an arch, with a detailed doorway framed beneath it. A strong diagonal line crosses the design, adding movement and structure to the composition, while the inscription “KILIÁN IGNÁC DIENTZENHOFER” and the dates “1751–2001” dominate the field in bold lettering. The reverse displays a heraldic shield divided into four sections with lions and eagles in high relief. The inscription “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” and the denomination “200 Kč” curve along the rim, balancing the composition.
Struck in silver in Proof quality, this coin highlights the elegance of Czech Baroque heritage. A refined tribute to architectural genius, it is a distinguished piece for collectors of art, architecture, and European commemorative coinage.
