The 1968 Czechoslovakia 10 korun silver coin commemorates the centenary of the National Theatre in Prague (1868–1968), a landmark of Czech cultural revival and artistic independence. This issue celebrates one of the nation’s most treasured architectural and theatrical symbols.
The reverse features a striking classical composition: a theatrical goddess standing in a chariot drawn by two powerful rearing horses, their flowing manes and lifted legs rendered in elegant relief. The goddess raises a flaming torch high above her head, symbolizing enlightenment and national culture. Beneath the dynamic scene appear the dates 1868–1968, while the inscription referencing the National Theatre in Prague encircles the rim. The obverse presents the coat of arms of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic — a rampant lion within a shield crowned by a five-pointed star — with the denomination “10” below and the state name surrounding the design. The mirrored fields contrast beautifully with the frosted devices.
Struck in silver in Proof quality and certified PCGS PR66 DCAM, this example displays strong cameo contrast and refined detail. A meaningful cultural commemorative and an excellent addition to any European silver coin collection.
