The 1965 Czechoslovakia 10 korun silver coin commemorates the 550th anniversary of the martyrdom of Jan Hus (1415–1965), the influential Czech reformer, theologian, and early critic of church corruption. Hus became a symbol of moral courage and national identity, and his legacy inspired the Hussite movement and later religious reform in Europe.
The obverse features a finely sculpted right-facing portrait of Jan Hus wearing a simple medieval cap. His sharp profile, calm expression, and modest attire emphasize his role as a preacher and thinker rather than a ruler. The inscription with his name and the dates 1415–1965 curves around the rim, with the denomination “Kčs 10” below. The reverse displays the coat of arms of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic: a rampant lion within a shield, topped by a five-pointed star, with stylized flames on the lion’s chest and decorative linden leaves at the base, surrounded by the state name and year 1965.
Struck in silver in Proof quality and certified PCGS PR68 CAM, this example shows strong cameo contrast and exceptional detail. A historically meaningful issue combining religion, reform, and national symbolism — an important piece for collectors of European commemorative silver coins.
