The Czech Republic 200 korun silver coin 1997 is dedicated to the Church of Our Lady of the Slavs – the Emauzy (Emmaus) Monastery in Prague, one of the most remarkable spiritual and architectural monuments of medieval Bohemia. Founded in 1347 by Charles IV, the monastery became an important center of Slavic liturgy and culture.
The obverse depicts a stylized Gothic sail-like roof silhouette of the monastery, rising sharply upward, symbolizing both faith and architectural innovation. Beside it appears the quartered Czech heraldic shield with the Bohemian lion and Moravian and Silesian eagles. The inscription ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA encircles the design along with the denomination 200 Kč. The reverse presents a finely detailed medieval fresco composition: the Virgin Mary seated on a throne with halo, holding a gesture of blessing, accompanied by decorative lilies and a banner with inscription. The surrounding legend EMauzy 1347–1997 and Slovanech highlights the 650th anniversary. Frosted relief contrasts elegantly with mirrored fields, enhancing every architectural and religious detail.
Struck in silver in proof quality, this coin is a refined tribute to Gothic art, sacred architecture and Czech heritage. A meaningful addition for collectors of religious themes and historic European monuments.
