The Czech Republic 200 korun silver coin 1998 commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of František Palacký (1798–1876), a prominent historian, politician and one of the key figures of the Czech National Revival. Often called the “Father of the Nation,” Palacký played a decisive role in shaping modern Czech historical consciousness and political thought within the Habsburg monarchy.
The obverse features a powerful left-facing portrait of František Palacký, capturing his distinctive facial features, swept-back hair and thoughtful expression. The dates 1798–1998 appear below, marking the bicentenary of his birth. The reverse displays the large quartered Czech heraldic shield with the Bohemian lion, Moravian eagle and Silesian eagle, finely engraved in detailed relief. The inscription Česká republika and the denomination 200 Kč frame the heraldic composition. The smooth fields and sharply defined relief create a refined contrast that enhances the historical dignity of the design.
Struck in silver in proof quality, this coin is a meaningful tribute to Czech statehood, historiography and political heritage. An excellent collectible for admirers of European history, national revival movements and distinguished Czech personalities.
