The souvenir gilded rectangular token is a piece of the series dedicated to African animal landmarks. This one depicts a lion which often is called the King of animals. The detailed relief portrait of the lion is placed in the center of the bar with the name of the series “King of Africa” below it and the words “South Africa” above. The token is covered with 1 troy ounce of gold, which is stated on the opposite surface of the token. The opposite side of the token repeats the image of springbok antelope as it is struck on the golden Krugerrand of South African Republic. The name of the country in Afrikaans and the name of its investment coins are indicated above the relief of the antelope. The Krugerrand is called so because of the profile of the politician and four-time president of Boer times South Africa Paul Kruger depicted on it.
