Costa Rica 100 Colones 1979 “Year of the Child” KM-206 is a touching commemorative silver issue dedicated to the International Year of the Child, a global initiative highlighting children’s rights and well-being. Certified MS66 by PCGS, this beautifully preserved coin combines humanitarian symbolism with refined national artistry.
The obverse depicts three young birds standing together in a carefully engraved nest, their beaks open and raised upward in a vivid symbol of care, growth, and hope for the future. Surrounding the central image is the inscription “AÑO INTERNACIONAL DEL NIÑO,” with the date 1979 below. The fine detailing of feathers, textured nest branches, and leafy elements adds depth and character, all framed by a delicate beaded rim.
The reverse features the national coat of arms encircled by “REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA.” The ornate shield shows three volcanoes rising above ocean waves, a sailing ship, radiant sun rays, five stars, and decorative scrollwork crowned with “AMERICA CENTRAL.” The denomination “B.C. CIEN COLONES C.R.” completes the composition.
Struck in silver and graded MS66, this coin is an excellent addition for collectors of UNICEF themes, wildlife designs, and Latin American commemoratives.
