The Costa Rica 5 Colones 1975 Central Bank 25th Anniversary coin celebrates the founding of the Banco Central de Costa Rica in 1950 and marks its silver jubilee in 1975. This commemorative issue honors a key institution responsible for monetary policy, financial stability, and economic development in the Republic.
The reverse features an elegant coffee branch with detailed leaves and clusters of ripe berries — a powerful national symbol representing Costa Rica’s historic coffee industry. The inscription “ANIVERSARIO DEL BANCO CENTRAL” encircles the upper rim, while the dates “1950–1975” appear to the right. A fine beaded border frames the composition.
The obverse displays the national coat of arms: three volcanic mountains rising above ocean waters, a sailing ship in the foreground, a radiant sun on the horizon, and five stars above the peaks. Ornate scrollwork surrounds the shield. The legends read “REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA” and “B.C. CINCO COLONES C.R.”
Struck in nickel and certified PCGS MS63, this Mint State example offers strong detail and attractive original surfaces. A distinguished commemorative coin linking Costa Rica’s banking history with its agricultural heritage.
