The Costa Rica 5 Colones 1975 Central Bank 25th Anniversary coin commemorates a quarter century of the Banco Central de Costa Rica, founded in 1950 as the cornerstone of the nation’s financial stability. Issued to mark the 1950–1975 milestone, this piece reflects the country’s economic development and institutional growth.
The reverse features a detailed branch of coffee plant leaves and berries, symbolizing one of Costa Rica’s most important agricultural exports and a pillar of its economy. The inscription “ANIVERSARIO DEL BANCO CENTRAL” curves along the rim, with the dates “1950–1975” placed to the right. A beaded border frames the design.
The obverse displays the national coat of arms: three volcanic mountains rising above the sea, a sailing ship in the foreground, a radiant sun at the horizon, and five stars above. Ornate scrollwork surrounds the shield. The legends read “REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA” and “B.C. CINCO COLONES C.R.”
Struck in nickel and certified PCGS MS62, this Mint State example preserves strong detail and historical character. A meaningful commemorative coin honoring Costa Rica’s financial heritage.
