The Cook Islands 5 Dollars 2012 silver coin from the Russian Folk Crafts series is dedicated to Zhostovo Art, the famous Russian tradition of hand-painted lacquer metal trays known for their expressive floral bouquets on a deep black background. This issue beautifully reflects the elegance and refinement of this decorative craft.
The reverse showcases a richly colored Zhostovo tray filled with a lush composition of roses, peonies and wildflowers in red, yellow, white and soft blue tones, surrounded by dense green leaves. The tray is framed by a delicate ornamental border. On the right side, finely engraved silver roses, buds, blossoms and curling leaves enhance the design, accompanied by small colored floral accents. The inscription “ZHOSTOVO” arches above, while “2012” and “Ag 925” appear at the lower rim.
The obverse bears the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, with the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “COOK ISLANDS,” and “5 DOLLARS.”
Struck in .925 silver with a Proof finish, the coin combines mirror-like fields with vibrant color printing. A graceful tribute to traditional floral art and cultural heritage, it is a refined and collectible piece for admirers of world decorative arts.
