The Cook Islands 5 Dollars 2012 silver coin from the Russian Folk Crafts series is dedicated to the refined and elegant Zhostovo Art, a traditional Russian decorative painting style famous for its vibrant floral compositions on lacquered metal trays. This issue beautifully captures the spirit of this celebrated craft.
The reverse features a richly colored Zhostovo tray at the center, decorated with a lush bouquet of roses, peonies and wildflowers in red, yellow, white and soft blue tones, surrounded by green leaves on a deep black background with a delicate ornamental border. Around the composition, finely engraved silver roses, buds, blossoms and curling leaves create a harmonious frame. The inscription “ZHOSTOVO” arches above, while “2012” and “Ag 925” appear near the lower edge.
The obverse presents the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, with the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “COOK ISLANDS,” and the denomination “5 DOLLARS.”
Struck in .925 silver with a Proof finish, the coin combines mirror-like fields and vivid color printing. A graceful tribute to floral art and national heritage, it is a striking addition to any world coin collection.
