Cook Islands 5 Dollars 2009 “Olesko Castle” is a refined silver proof coin from the series “12 Wonders of Ukraine,” dedicated to one of the country’s most historic architectural landmarks. Olesko Castle, located in the Lviv region, is renowned as the birthplace of King Jan III Sobieski and as a significant medieval fortress of Eastern Europe.
The reverse features a detailed relief depiction of the castle complex with its massive stone walls, sloping tiled roofs, central tower crowned with a flag, arched entrance gate, and surrounding greenery. Carefully engraved shrubs and trees fill the foreground, while the architectural lines emphasize the fortified character of the residence. Along the upper rim appears the Cyrillic inscription “ДВАНАДЦЯТЬ ЧУДЕС УКРАЇНИ,” and at the bottom “ОЛЕСЬКИЙ ЗАМОК” with the date “2009.” The mirrored background enhances the sharpness of the frosted relief.
The obverse presents the right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “COOK ISLANDS,” and denomination “5 DOLLARS.” Struck in fine silver in Proof quality, this coin beautifully combines history, architecture, and numismatic artistry. An excellent addition for collectors of castles, European heritage, and themed world silver coins.
