The Cook Islands 2 Dollars 2015 “Preussen” silver coin is a remarkable issue from the History in Ships series, dedicated to one of the most famous windjammers ever built. The legendary German five-masted full-rigged ship Preussen was launched in 1902 and became a symbol of the golden age of commercial sailing vessels.
The reverse presents an impressive depiction of the majestic Preussen under full sail, cutting through rolling ocean waves. Every mast, sail, yard, and rigging line is finely engraved, emphasizing the scale and power of the vessel. To the left, a detailed nautical compass rose and crossing navigation lines enhance the maritime theme. The denomination “$2” appears in the field, while the inscription “WINDJAMMER ‘PREUSSEN’” runs along the lower rim. The beaded border frames the composition, and below the coin image on the presentation card is the German inscription “Geschichte der Seefahrt” (History of Seafaring).
The obverse features the right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “COOK ISLANDS,” and the year “2015.”
Struck in fine silver in proof quality, this coin is a tribute to maritime history, navigation, and legendary sailing ships—an excellent addition for collectors of nautical and transport themes.
