The China Hupeh 10 Cash copper coin dated 1909 was issued during the reign of the Guangxu Emperor and represents an important stage in the development of late Qing imperial copper coinage. Although struck at the Hupeh (Hubei) mint, this issue carries the official imperial English legend, emphasizing its status as currency of the Great Qing Empire. Certified MS62 by PCGS, this Uncircled Dragon variety (Y-122) displays strong strike quality, preserved detail, and attractive original copper surfaces.

The obverse is dominated by a fierce Chinese dragon shown in dynamic motion, with bulging eyes, open mouth, flowing whiskers, sharp claws, and finely rendered scales. Flames and cloud-like elements surround the dragon, reinforcing traditional symbols of imperial power and cosmic authority. Along the outer rim appears the English inscription “TAI-CHING TI-KUO COPPER COIN,” clearly identifying the Great Qing Empire. The design is enclosed by a beaded border and denticled rim.

The reverse features bold Chinese characters arranged within a dotted inner circle, indicating the denomination Ten Cash and the Guangxu reign. Additional Chinese inscriptions around the outer field identify the issuing authority and era. The calligraphy is deeply engraved and well balanced, framed by a toothed border.

This certified Guangxu-era copper dragon coin offers historical significance, classic imperial design, and excellent eye appeal, making it a strong addition to any collection of Chinese Qing dynasty coinage.
