The China Kirin 50 Cents silver coin dated 1908, issued under the Guangxu Emperor, is a remarkable example of late Qing Dynasty provincial silver coinage. Struck in Kirin Province, this denomination reflects China’s transition toward modern monetary standards while preserving deeply rooted imperial symbolism. The “50 Cents” value indicates its role within the silver-based currency system adopted in northeastern China during the empire’s final years.

The obverse features a bold imperial Chinese dragon, coiled in a dynamic pose with sharply engraved scales, extended claws, flowing whiskers, and an expressive face. The dragon grasps a flaming pearl, a traditional emblem of wisdom, authority, and celestial power. Around the rim appears an English legend, including “KIRIN PROVINCE” and the denomination “50 CENTS,” separated by small decorative ornaments and framed by a denticle border. The reverse displays Chinese characters in Manchu and Chinese script, arranged vertically to denote the denomination, reign title, and issuing authority. A beaded inner circle, clear calligraphy, edge denticles, light toning, and surface traces consistent with age and repair are visible.

Struck in silver and certified by PCGS as Genuine – Repaired, XF Detail, this coin is cataloged as LM-577 (Manchu type). Its large denomination, classic dragon motif, and imperial provenance make it an appealing piece for collectors of Qing Dynasty silver and historic Chinese provincial coinage.
