The special coin of unusual octahedron shape was issued by the Cook Islands in 2011. The subject of the 5-dollar coin is Saint Catherine which is greatly honored in Roman Catholic Christian denomination. The whole piece is struck in pure silver and some decorations are gilded and embellished with sparkling color Swarovski crystals. Saint Catherine is the monk and theologian living in Siena, Italy; she is one of two holy patrons of Italy proclaimed by Pope. Since St. Catherine was devoted to science she is wide-known in the Catholic world as the holy patron of nurses, sick people and is useful against fire and different body diseases. The beautiful portrait of St. Catherine is placed on the reverse side of the coin with her gilded attributes in front of the cathedral. By her side there’s a date of her celebration which is on April, 29 by Roman Catholic tradition. The obverse shows the common for the Cook Islands design with the portrait of the British Queen and traditional legends.
