The collectible 12-dollar coin produced by the Cook Islands was launched in 2009 as the next piece of the series “12 wonders of Ukraine”. The subject of the coin is the Khortytsia National Reserve, situated in Zaporizhia city, Ukraine. The place located on the River Dnieper’s island is the ancient site of early cultures of the region, then the place of Zaporizhian Cossacks settlement. The latter played the key role in establishment of Ukrainian state. The museum of Khortytsia displays the rich history of the nearby territory starting from the earliest times. Some of the excavated statues are shown on the reverse of the piece with the bridge over Dnieper on the background. The name of the whole series and the place in Ukrainian are placed above and below the image. The opposite side of the piece bears the effigy of the Queen and the face value of the coin. The name of the territory of issue and the name of the monarch are indicated there as well.
