The Chile 10 Pesos silver commemorative coin dated 1968 is dedicated to the historic arrival of the Liberation Fleet, a naval expedition that marked a decisive step in Chile’s path to independence. Issued to honor the events of 1820, this proof coin embodies national pride, maritime tradition, and republican symbolism. Certified PR67 Deep Cameo by PCGS, it features outstanding visual contrast, refined surfaces, and excellent overall preservation.
The obverse presents a dramatic maritime scene dominated by a fully rigged sailing ship, a classic clipper advancing through stylized sea waves. The composition is rich in detail: billowing sails, tall masts, intricate rigging, a defined hull, and a textured waterline beneath layered clouds. Encircling the design is the inscription “ESCUADRA LIBERTADORA,” clearly identifying the historic fleet, while the dates “1820 – 1968” appear below to commemorate the original expedition and its anniversary. A precise beaded border frames the entire scene.
The reverse showcases the national coat of arms of the Republic of Chile. At the center is a shield bearing a single star, flanked by a huemul deer and a powerful condor. Above rise ornamental plumes, and below a ribbon carries the national motto “POR LA RAZÓN O LA FUERZA.” The legend “REPUBLICA DE CHILE” runs along the rim, with the denomination “10 PESOS” at the bottom.
Struck in silver as a proof issue and encapsulated by PCGS in PR67 DCAM, this coin is a fine example of Chilean commemorative art and an excellent choice for collectors of naval history and certified proof coinage.
