This Bulgaria 2 Leva 2010 commemorative coin celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Zahariy Zograf — the pioneering Bulgarian painter who transformed Orthodox art during the National Revival period. The obverse features a finely engraved portrait based on his famous self-portrait: Zograf is depicted wearing a traditional fur hat and heavy cloak, holding a painter’s brush. His intense gaze and detailed facial contours convey the depth of character that defined his artistic legacy. To the left, the inscription marks the bicentennial anniversary of his birth.
The reverse displays the emblem of the Bulgarian National Bank: a shield supported by two lions and the founding year 1879, surrounded by the inscription Българска народна банка. At the bottom appear the year 2010 and the denomination 2 ЛЕВА, all set against brilliant mirrored fields that contrast sharply with the warm copper relief. Graded PCGS PR68DCAM, this issue offers deep cameo contrast and exceptional surface quality, making it a standout numismatic tribute to one of Bulgaria’s greatest artists.
