This 1998 Brazil 1 Real bimetallic coin, KM-653, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in 1948. The obverse presents a symbolic human figure with outstretched arms beside a globe formed by geographic outlines and a network of meridian and parallel lines, crowned by a radiant sun-like emblem. “BRASIL” appears below, while the outer ring carries the Human Rights dedication and anniversary reference. The reverse displays the denomination “1 REAL” and date 1998 over sweeping curved bands with stars, accompanied by a large numeral 1 and surrounded by distinctive geometric linear ornament. The bimetal composition, combining contrasting inner and outer sections, gives the design additional visual depth. Dedicated to equality, dignity and universal human rights, this special commemorative issue combines Brazilian numismatics with an internationally significant United Nations theme. An appealing choice for collectors of Brazil, UN, human rights and modern world commemorative coins.
