A new coin.
The 1869 Brazil 10 Réis bronze coin is a striking representation of the Brazilian Empire under Emperor Dom Pedro II, one of Latin America’s most enlightened monarchs. The obverse features a finely detailed right-facing portrait of Pedro II, his long beard and composed profile rendered with exceptional craftsmanship. Surrounding the image runs the Latin legend PETRUS II D.G.C. IMP. ET PERP. BRAS. DEF. (“Pedro II, by the Grace of God, Emperor and Perpetual Defender of Brazil”), with the date 1869 placed below. The reverse shows the magnificent imperial coat of arms beneath a royal crown, enclosing a globe, cross, and constellation of stars, framed by the denomination 10 R. on both sides. Minted in Brussels, this coin embodies the stability and refinement of Brazil’s imperial era, when science, education, and international prestige flourished under Pedro II’s reign. Graded MS62 by PCGS, it is a historic and beautifully preserved piece of 19th-century numismatic art.
