A new medal.
This Bolivia 2009 bimetallic medal commemorates the bicentenary of the La Paz Revolution of July 16, 1809, an important milestone in the struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule. The obverse features a gold-colored central design depicting a revolutionary figure with flowing hair and a mustache, holding a rifle against a dramatic background of flames and historical imagery. The anniversary emblem 200 ANOS LIBRES appears below, while the silver-colored outer ring bears LIBERTAD, DIVERSIDAD, UNIDAD, 1809, 2009 and BICENTENARIO. The reverse displays Bolivia's national coat of arms with an oval shield, condor, crossed flags, weapons and decorative branches. The surrounding inscriptions REPUBLICA DE BOLIVIA and LA PAZ emphasize the medal's national significance. The 1809 uprising helped inspire independence movements throughout South America. Certified PCGS MS68, this attractive bimetallic medal combines historical symbolism, detailed relief and distinctive contrasting metals. An excellent addition to any Latin American historical collection.
