A new coin.
The Bolivia ½ Boliviano (50 Centavos) silver coin of 1898, issued under the Republica Boliviana, is an elegant example of 19th-century South American minting. The obverse features the Bolivian coat of arms, with a soaring condor above an oval shield depicting the Cerro de Potosí mountain and a llama standing before it — symbols of national pride, natural wealth, and endurance. A rising sun illuminates the scene, representing hope and prosperity. Around the shield are six national flags, crossed muskets, cannons, and a battle axe, signifying the defense of liberty and sovereignty, surrounded by the inscription “REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA.” The reverse shows a laurel and oak wreath encircling the value “MEDIO B. / 50 CENTs,” the fineness “9 D. FINO,” and the date 1898, with the proud motto “LA UNION ES LA FUERZA” (“Unity is Strength”). Struck in silver and certified PCGS MS63, this coin beautifully embodies Bolivia’s national identity and heritage.
