The Belgium 5 Francs copper coin of 1880 was issued to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Belgian Constitution, a milestone that secured the foundations of the young kingdom. The obverse features conjoined portraits of King Leopold I, the founder of the monarchy, and his successor King Leopold II. Their finely detailed profiles are encircled by inscriptions “LEOPOLD I” and “LEOPOLD II,” with a small star above and the engraver’s name “LEOP WIENER” below. The reverse presents a rich allegorical scene: a standing female figure of Liberty holding a tablet inscribed “CONSTITUTION BELGE” and a laurel branch, leaning on a powerful Belgian lion. To her left, radiant sunrays rise behind a monumental column, while to the right, the façade of the Palais de Justice is depicted, symbolizing law and national pride. The dates “1830” and “1880” mark the jubilee. Certified MS64 by PCGS, this coin represents one of the most artistic Belgian commemoratives of the 19th century, combining historic symbolism with numismatic rarity.
