A new coin.
This Bulgaria 1000 Leva silver coin from 1995, certified PCGS PR67DCAM, honors the renowned Rozhen National Astronomical Observatory, a key scientific center for observational astronomy in Bulgaria. The reverse depicts the observatory’s large domed telescope building, intricately engraved with visible dome panels, the opened observation slit, and the surrounding mountainous landscape. Dense rows of trees anchor the scene, while above the dome, a spectacular star map unfolds: constellations, dotted star chains, and celestial groupings form a striking cosmic tapestry. The denomination 1000 Лева is placed at the bottom in bold lettering.
The obverse features the ECU emblem — a symbolic reference to Bulgaria’s economic trajectory during the mid-1990s. The inscriptions “Република България” and “Republic of Bulgaria” form a full circular border, accented with evenly spaced stars and the year 1995 set within the emblem. The Deep Cameo Proof strike gives the coin a sharp contrast between mirrored fields and frosted reliefs, with the PR67 grade offering excellent preservation and strong eye appeal.
A rare and meaningful piece connecting astronomy, national identity, and Bulgarian numismatic artistry — ideal for collectors of scientific and thematic silver coins.
