The Bulgaria 10 Leva “Downhill Skiing” 1984 silver coin celebrates the XIV Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo and stands out as one of the most dynamic sports-themed issues of the era. The obverse presents an athlete in full motion, captured mid-turn on steep terrain. The skier’s bent posture, detailed boots, crossed poles, and sharply defined skis convey speed and focus. Surrounding the scene is a ring of finely repeated snowflakes, accompanied by the Cyrillic inscription „XIV ЗИМНИ ОЛИМПИЙСКИ ИГРИ“, emphasizing the winter setting and Olympic theme.
The reverse shows the emblem of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, with the lion at the center of the shield, the star above it, wheat ears, and the historic dates 681–1944. Below are two stylized torches symbolizing the Olympic flame, as well as the denomination “10 ЛЕВА” and the year 1984. The snowflake wreath continues, tying the design together and enhancing the frosted–mirror contrast typical of proof strikes.
Certified NGC PF68 Ultra Cameo, this silver coin offers exceptional visual appeal, historical resonance, and a beautifully executed winter sports motif—an excellent choice for collectors of Olympic and Bulgarian numismatics.
