A new coin.
The Bulgaria 10 Leva “Downhill Skiing” 1984 PROBA I pattern coin is a rare and historically significant issue dedicated to the XIV Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo. This trial striking, made before the official release, showcases a dynamic depiction of a downhill skier captured in mid-turn. The athlete’s bent posture, detailed skis, wind-swept clothing folds, and sharply engraved poles create a sense of speed and precision. The obverse is framed by a ring of snowflake ornaments and the inscription „XIV ЗИМНИ ОЛИМПИЙСКИ ИГРИ“.
The reverse continues the winter motif with another snowflake wreath surrounding the national emblem of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria. Prominent elements include the lion within the shield, the star, wheat ears, the date 681–1944, two stylized Olympic torches, and the denomination “10 ЛЕВА”. Each detail stands out crisply against the deep mirrored field. As a pattern coin (PROBA I), it is considerably rarer than regular issues.
Certified NGC PF69 Ultra Cameo, this CuNi pattern combines Olympic heritage, rarity, and superb visual contrast—an excellent highlight for advanced collectors.
