The 2010 Bulgaria 10 Leva “140 Years of the Bulgarian Exarchate” silver coin commemorates a pivotal moment in national religious history — the establishment of the Bulgarian Exarchate in 1870, which marked a major step toward spiritual and cultural independence. The reverse features a solemn ceremonial scene: a group of Orthodox clergy in ornate vestments gathered around a large stone cross, with architectural domes, church roofs, and crosses silhouetted in the background. The detailed folds of the vestments, staffs, and liturgical elements are finely engraved. The surrounding gilded inscription “140 ГОДИНИ БЪЛГАРСКА ЕКЗАРХИЯ” highlights the jubilee and adds a distinguished visual contrast.
The obverse shows the coat of arms of the Bulgarian National Bank, supported by two heraldic lions, a shield, and the ribbon dated 1879, placed above a decorative floral motif. A gilded inscription “БЪЛГАРСКА НАРОДНА БАНКА” encircles the upper field, accompanied by the year 2010 and denomination 10 ЛЕВА, whose lettering is also gilded.
Graded PCGS PR68DCAM, the coin demonstrates deep cameo contrast, crisp strike quality, and elegant gilt accents, making it one of the most visually striking Bulgarian commemoratives of the decade. It is an excellent piece for collectors of religious history, national heritage, and certified premium silver issues.
