The Bulgaria 25 leva 1990 Conservation Wildlife – Lynx coin is a refined silver commemorative issue dedicated to the protection of fauna, highlighting one of Europe’s most elusive predators, the lynx. Issued in 1990 with a denomination of 25 leva, this coin reflects growing environmental awareness in Bulgarian numismatics at the end of the 20th century.
The obverse bears the emblem of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria. At the center is a heraldic lion standing within a wreath of wheat ears, crowned by a five-pointed star. Beneath the emblem, on a ribbon, appears the historic date range “681–1944.” The surrounding legend reads “НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ,” while the denomination “25 ЛЕВА” and the year 1990 are placed along the lower rim. Deep mirrored fields contrast with frosted relief, giving the design a crisp, official appearance.
The reverse presents a detailed wildlife scene featuring two lynxes. An adult lynx sits alert in the foreground, while a smaller lynx appears beside it, surrounded by grass and natural elements. The animals’ tufted ears, muscular bodies, and calm yet watchful posture are carefully rendered. The inscriptions “ЗАСТРАШЕНИ ДИВИ ЖИВОТНИ” curve along the rim, reinforcing the conservation message.
Struck in silver and certified PR67 Deep Cameo by PCGS, this coin is a compelling choice for collectors of wildlife, environmental themes, and modern Bulgarian commemoratives.
