The Bulgaria 10 Leva silver proof coin issued in 1987 commemorates the XV Winter Olympic Games held in Calgary in 1988, celebrating one of the most dynamic and iconic winter sports — ice hockey. The obverse presents a stylized hockey player captured in mid-action, leaning forward with his stick extended toward the puck. The design is built from bold geometric lines, creating a sense of speed and movement. To the left appear the Olympic flame symbol and the five-ring emblem, while a large snowflake motif anchors the lower part of the scene. The inscription “XV ЗИМНИ ОЛИМПИЙСКИ ИГРИ 1988” curves along the rim, with the date “1987” and the denomination “10 ЛЕВА” placed below.
The reverse shows the emblem of the Народна Република България — a heraldic lion framed by wheat ears and topped with a five-pointed star. Beneath the lion are the dates 681 and 1944, marking symbolic milestones in Bulgarian history. The surrounding inscription “НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ” completes the composition in a bold, circular layout.
Certified PCGS PR67DCAM, this coin offers exceptional cameo contrast, crisp lines and high-definition relief. Its athletic theme, Olympic symbolism and striking graphic style make it a standout addition for collectors of winter sports, Olympic memorabilia and Bulgarian silver proofs.
